The pretty and ancient village of Ebberston, with its stone cottages and running stream, is easy to access and has a public house, as well as an Anglican and a Methodist church. Not far to the west is the colourful village of Thornton le Dale with its famous thatched cottage and 14th Century church, and the ancient market town of Pickering with its castle and the terminus for the North York Moors (steam) Railway.

The seafaring town of Whitby, the smugglers' haunt of Robin Hood's Bay, the beach resorts of Scarborough and Filey and the historic City of York are only a short journey away, as well as the historic country house Castle Howard - film location for 'Brideshead Revisited', and the popular village of Goathland - setting for the television series 'Heartbeat'. Or you could visit the picturesque village of Hutton le Hole - where sheep, ducks and tourists roam free or - at the right time of year - enjoy the blanket of daffodils that surrounds Farndale.

Nearby are a variety of antiques shops, museums, castles and other ancient monuments, as well as historic churches and craft centres. For those who like to travel there is horse riding, quad biking. There are direct bus services to Scarborough and Pickering and connecting services to Whitby, Malton and York. The 'Moors Bus' network provides services to a number of destinations in the area during the Summer.

Heritage
  • Ebberston Hall known as the smallest stately home. Built in 1718 and like a Palladian Mansion in miniature.
  • Ebberston St Mary's Church now stands half a mile west of the village. Probably of Saxon origin and built in the 12th century.
  • Snainton Pinfold used for stray animals, but now sporting a sundial, unique to Snainton.
  • Snainton St Stephen's Church - The original church was built in 1150, though the present church, St Stephen's, replaced it in the 1830s.
  • Snainton Thatched cottage - the only thatched property between Thornton-le-Dale and the coast.
  • Allerston St John's Church Norman church built in the late 14th century.
  • Thornton le Dale almshouses, built in 1670 by a local landlowner. Schoolroom seated 400.
  • Thornton le Dale Thatched Cottage much photographed and used on lids of chocolate boxes.
  • Thornton le Dale All Saints Church dates from 14th century. Gravestone for guard over Napoleon on St Helena.
  • Yedingham Priory former convent church, founded before 1163. Only one original south wall.
  • Yedingham St John the Baptist Church - Built in the 12th Century and originally controlled by the nuns at the priory.
